Indian Military Operations



Exercises by Indian Army:

Operation Barrastacks:

November 1986- full scale war on west – this was the largest ever conducted in India

Operation Parakram:

Accumulation of Indian troops in Indo – Pak border aftermath of Parliament attack on December 13, 2001

Operation Sanghe Sakthi:

To validate mobilization strategies of the Ambala based II Strike Corps

Exercise Ashwamedha:

Indian Army tested its Network Centric Warfare Capabilities – held in Thar Desert – Asymmetric war capabilities were also tested.

Operation Polo:

Indian armed forces ended the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad and led to the incorporation of the princely state of Hyderabad in Southern India, into the Indian Union

Operation Bluestar: (June 1984)

Indian military operation ordered by Indira Gandhi, to remove Sikh separatists who were amassing weapons in theGolden Temple in Amritsar.

Operation Woodrose: (June to September 1984)

Follow up to Operation Bluestar – where the Indian army unsuccessfully attempted to wipe out Sikh terrorism.

Operation Meghdoot:

Attack launched by Indian army to capture the Siachen Glacier in the disputed Kashmir region – April 13, 1984 – first assault at World’s highest battlefield.

Operation Pawan:

By Indian peace keeping force to take control of Jaffna from LTTE – 1987 –

Operation Viraat & Operation Trishul:

By Indian Peace Keeping Force against the LTTE in April 1988 in Northern Sri Lanka in the Provinces of Mannar to Mullaithevu and Elephanta Pass to Vavuniya.

Operation Checkmate:

By Indian Peace Keeping Force against the LTTE in the Vadamarachi area of Northern Srilanka.

Operation Cactus:
The 1988 Maldives Coup, whose rescue efforts were code-named Operation Cactus by the Indian armed forces, was the attempt by a group of Maldivians led by Abdullah Luthufi and assisted by about 80 armed mercenaries of a Sri Lankan secessionist organisation, People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), to overthrow the government of the island republic of Maldives. The coup was foiled after Indian forces were invited by the Maldivian government to intervene.
Operation Vijay:
1961- Capture of Goa, Diu & Daman; 1999- Kargil war;

Operation Parakram:
The 2001–2002 India–Pakistan standoff was a military standoff between India and Pakistan that resulted in the amassing of troops on either side of the International Border (IB) and along the Line of Control (LoC) in the region of Kashmir.
Operation Black Tornado & Operation Cyclone:
Mumbai Attack on November 26, 2008
